What is Lung Cancer:

Cancer that develops in the lungs. It's usually found in the cells that line the air passages. There are two different kinds of lung cancer; small cell and non-small cell lung cancer.

Causes of Lung Cancer:

*Smoking Cigarettes

*2nd hand smoke

*Asbestos, Radon, Arsenic, Chemicals, Lumber Dust, and Hazardous Materials

*Eating lots of fruits and vegetables can help reduce the risk.

*Genetics

Symptoms:

*Consistant and persistant cough

*Chest pain

*Shortness of breath

*Wheezing or hoarseness

*Repeated bronchitis or pneumonia

*Appetite loss

*Significant weight loss

 

Diagnosis:

If you feel that you have any of or a combination of the symptoms listed above you should see your doctor. Some ways of detecting lung cancer is with a chest x-ray, a CT Scan, an MRI, a bone scan, a biospy, or a bronchoscopy (windpipe and lung branches exam).

Treatment:

Once again, treatment depends on when the lung cancer is diagnosed and how severe it is and if it has spread to other parts of the body. Sometimes it can be surgically removed and sometimes Chemotherapy and radiation can be used. There's new experimental methods as well as clinical trials that are ongoing as with many types of cancer.
